It's a great way of remembering what a child's interests are, or your own for that matter. Because kids change so quickly, you could make it a tradition to do one every year! A fun variation on this would be to make a page titled something like "What I wish for you," detailing all the hopes and dreams you have for your child or loved one. You could include a personal letter expressing your feelings, tucked away in a built-in envelope or pocket.</p> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> &nbsp; </td> </tr> <tr> <td valign="top"> <a name="6" /> <img height="27" src="../common/n6.gif" width="29" alt="" /> </td> <td style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px;"> <h2>Trivia:</h2> <img src="images/memorial-day.jpg" style="float: right; margin-left: 3px; margin-bottom: 20px; border: 0;" alt="" width="250" height="264" /> <p>The official first observance of Memorial Day occurred in Waterloo, NY on May 5, 1866, to honor Union soldiers who died during the Civil War.</p> <p>It is said that the actual first observance of the holiday was performed by liberated slaves in Charleston in 1865. To honor those who fought, liberated slaves exhumed the bodies of Union soldiers placed in a mass grave there, fenced in the grave yard, and reinterred all the men into individual graves.</p> <p>Memorial Day was first called "Decoration Day," but to involve the people of the south who still harbored bad feelings toward union soldiers, the name was changed to Memorial Day, and was declared to be a day to honor all fallen soldiers.
