I can t believe its October already. This just seems crazy! We re already working on our December and January packs, and it seems like we just did July s. I m missing summer and warm weather, but I seem to be the minority; so many people around me love the fall. I personally think the best things about fall are the fall colors. I love the rich, deep colors of autumn. I also love the holidays coming up. It s so fun to take photos of my little nieces and nephews in Halloween costumes. We re going to have a company party and carve pumpkins at my house. I ll take pictures so you can see us in action! <br /> <br /> I wanted to say thank you for the kind and encouraging words I received from some of you about adoption. We ve got a good start on all the paperwork, I m looking for things like bassinets and car seats, and I m ready to start baby-proofing our home. Now we just need to find a baby! <br /> <br /> We ll be at the Ontario, California Scrapbook Expo on October 26th and 27th and the Sacramento Scrapbook Expo on November 9th and 10th. We d love to meet you. If you re in the area, stop by and say hi. </td> </tr> <tr> <td> &nbsp; </td> </tr> <tr> <td valign="top"> <a name="2" /> <img src="http://www.storytellersclub.com/NewsLetter/October07/images/n2.gif" width="29" height="27" /></td> <td style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px;"> <b>StoryTellers Store Updates</b><br /> We ve had requests to make shopping for StoryTellers products online a bit easier, so we re doing just what you asked for. We know many of you purchase StoryTellers products for gifts or projects during the Holidays, so we re moving right along with the changes and hope to be done soon. Instead of having to look for each sheet of die-cuts and each pattern paper separately, we ve simplified things a bit. All the StoryTellers products are now being sold as Single Packs . Each Single Pack contains everything you need for a double page layout. You ll get all the die cuts (or cut outs) in a theme, along with two sheets of coordinating 12x12 paper. We ve also made it easy to find what you need. You can browse through the products by looking at a double page layout created with the pack. I ve taken the following information directly from their website. <br /> <br /> <b>The Great Pumpkin-</b> <br /> <b>Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Pumpkins</b> <br /> <b>But Were Afraid To Ask...</b><br /> <img align="right" src="http://www.storytellersclub.com/NewsLetter/October07/images/4.jpg" width="200" height="199" /> - Pumpkins are fruits. A pumpkin is a type of squash and is a member of the gourd family (Cucurbitacae), which also includes squash, cucumbers, gherkins, and melons. <br /> - The largest pumpkin pie ever baked was in 2005 and weighed 2,020 pounds.<br /> - Pumpkins have been grown in North America for five thousand years. They are indigenous to the western hemisphere.<br /> - Pumpkins are low in calories, fat, and sodium and high in fiber. They are good sources of Vitamin A, Vitamin B, potassium, protein, and iron.<br /> - The largest pumpkin ever grown was 1,689 pounds. It was grown by Joe Jutras of North Scituate, Rhode Island.<br /> <br /> <b>History of the Jack-O'Lantern</b><br /> Pumpkin carving is a popular part of modern America's Halloween celebration. Come October, pumpkins can be found everywhere in the country from doorsteps to dinner tables. Despite the widespread carving that goes on in this country every autumn, few <img src="http://www.storytellersclub.com/NewsLetter/October07/images/1.jpg" align="left" width="184" height="199" /> Americans really know why or when the jack-o'lantern tradition began. <br /> People have been making jack-o'lanterns at Halloween for centuries. The practice originated from an Irish myth about a man nicknamed "Stingy Jack." According to the story, Stingy Jack invited the Devil to have a drink with him. True to his name, Stingy Jack didn't want to pay for his drink, so he convinced the Devil to turn himself into a coin that Jack could use to buy their drinks. Once the Devil did so, Jack decided to keep the money and put it into his pocket next to a silver cross, which prevented the Devil from changing back into his original form. Jack eventually freed the Devil, under the condition that he would not bother Jack for one year and that, should Jack die, he would not claim his soul. The next year, Jack again tricked the Devil into climbing into a tree to pick a piece of fruit. While he was up in the tree, Jack carved a sign of the cross into the tree's bark so that the Devil could not come down until the Devil promised Jack not to bother him for ten more years.<br /> Soon after, Jack died. As the legend goes, God would not allow such an unsavory figure into heaven. The Devil, upset by the trick Jack had played on him and keeping his word not to claim his soul, would not allow Jack into hell. He sent Jack off into the dark night with only a burning coal to light his way. Jack put the coal into a carved-out turnip and has been roaming the Earth with ever since. The Irish began to refer to this ghostly figure as "Jack of the Lantern," and then, simply "Jack O'Lantern."<br /> In Ireland and Scotland, people began to make their own versions of Jack's lanterns by carving scary faces into turnips or potatoes and placing them into windows or near doors to frighten away Stingy Jack and other wandering evil spirits. In England, large beets are used. Immigrants from these countries brought the jack-o'lantern tradition with them when they came to the United States. They soon found that pumpkins, a fruit native to America, make perfect jack-o'lanterns.<br /> </td> </tr> </table> <table width="590px"> <tr> <td> &nbsp; </td> </tr> <tr> <td valign="top"> <a name="4" /> <img src="http://www.storytellersclub.com/NewsLetter/October07/images/n4.gif" width="29" height="27" /></td> <td style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px;"> <b>Members Only Blowout Sale</b><br /> This month we have another awesome deal for you. Because it s October, we thought it would be great to have a challenge to fit the season. So, here it is: Create a layout that is Fall or Halloween themed. You must use your StoryTellers kits to do this and it s OK to add a few extras too. But, here s the catch. You can t use a theme that was specifically designed for Fall or Halloween. There are several generic kits and other themed kits that could be adapted to fit this challenge. You may also add your own words, letters etc. to make it work for you. Check out our <a href="http://www.storytellersclub.com/NewsLetter/October07/images/pumpkinLayoutBIG.jpg" target="_blank">inspirational example page</a> where we creatively used pinks, reds and browns in a pumpkin themed layout. <br /> <br /> When you complete your layout, you re going to need to upload it to the StoryTellers gallery (<a href="http://forum.storytellersclub.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2375">Click here</a> for instructions on how to upload to the gallery) and post a link to it in the Newsletter Challenge Thread on the discussion boards (<a href="http://forum.storytellersclub.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2376">click here</a> to learn how to link to your gallery). This is pretty easy to do, even if it sounds daunting, so don t be afraid! Feel free to ask questions on the boards. Everyone is friendly and excited to help out! <br /> <br /> Of course there will be some fabulous PRIZES given out at the end of the challenge (like free upcoming packs, embellishments and more!) awarded to at least three winners. The challenge this month will be due on November 15th! </td> </tr> <tr> <td> &nbsp;</td> </tr> <tr> <td valign="top"> <a name="8" /> <img src="http://www.storytellersclub.com/NewsLetter/October07/images/n8.gif" width="29" height="27" /></td> <td style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px;"> <b><a target="_blank" href="http://forum.storytellersclub.com/">Discussion Board News</a></b><br /> We just finished up our Fall Cyber Crop!
